My girlfriend and I were walking down the street near the Brown Line Train at Southport & passing a liquor store when this very nice man
(Richard ) said " Hello please come in to our wine tasting" I said "We're not shopping for any wine and he said " That's cool- don't feel compelled to do anything but taste". with the heck, we went in to taste some wine am=nd am I ever happy we did. I wound up buying a really nice Pinot at a very good price and we each laughed so hard you would have thought we were at 2nd City. Richard and Doug (?) had a banter that was hilarious and the store was like the Art Institute. IF you want a bottle of great wine at a fair price with friendly cautious service this is the place to go.
You're there and close bro. That's something in itself ;)
The Best Customer Service, this team is great!!!! Friendly and Professional
Love this place! The owner is super friendly and always offers his expertise when I don't know what to get and he has been spot on every time. The location is super convenient and they carry a pretty big selection compared to other specialty stores.
The only down side is when the owner isn't there because the other staff members could care less if you buy anything, you're lucky if they even greet you when you walk in.
Convenient location at the Southport El stop. They have an excellent selection of wines at all price points but they also have great craft beer options in their fridge for those who prefer a nice six pack. I also love all the trinkets/small gifts you can buy on your way up to the counter like beer bottle candles, or unique bottle openers.
Great wine selection and anything else you can think of...
Best Liquor store ever! Very knowledgeable staff and great vibe! Bryan
This is an excellent liqueur store that is very convenient to visit.
Pretty awesome place! Corner from my house... They have a great selection... Good service!

Great little wine shop on Southport. Lots of selection with nice Zins (a personal fave) and many other reds. Friendly gentleman who checked us out today, gave us a nice wine bag for our purchase also. Definitely NOT a big liquor store as the name says, which is a good thing IMO.
About as good as the old town location...when im in the mood for second city or visiting latin for old times sake...the place where you can be sanctimonious or blasphemous...depending where your buzz takes that evening and the virtue of the damsels...
While the prices on the drinks are marked up a bit, the service is nice.
When I walked in looking for a type of wine to go with a meal I was cooking, they were very helpful in suggestions and working with my preferences.
I first stopped in Galleria a few weeks ago. The two guys working the store offered some great suggestions one of which has turned out to be a new favorite (La Posta: Malbec).
Their prices are a little marked up but they make up for it with the friendly service, great selection and excellent customer service.
I didn't think the prices were high in here at all. The guys that work in here really know their wines and were dead on with the suggestions they gave me on what wine would go with the dinners I was planning. They have a ton of wines that are under $11, too. The place it georgeous with chandeliers and murals and welcoming at the same time.
Love this place! Great wine selection, helpful staff. I've never been steered wrong with staff wine suggestions. They frequently have free tastings as well.
This place has a slightly higher mark up then say a Binny's or Jewel - but they have to I'm sure to be able to afford the rent in that convenient location.
I really don't understand the comments about price, but maybe others haven't been as lucky as I have. I've consistently found remarkable wines in the 10-15 dollar price range. While they may have some $7 options at CVS, those wines taste like they cost $7. Ask someone for a recommendation and you'll be thrilled to find that these guys know what they're talking about and can find a bottle for any budget. Unless of course you really want the $7 wine, then you'll have to walk over to CVS. You can't be cheap AND lazy.
They deliver. 'nuff said. All I have to do is call and ask for wine within a price range and Eduardo rushes it to my door as though it were an emergency (and sometimes it is...). I always get good selections and Eduardo is very nice. They don't normally deliver up to my hood, but were very accommodating.
Update on 8/20: Last time I phoned in an order, Eduardo brought treats for my dog. Seriously. How cool can you get?
I almost want to move back the Southport area just to be able to go to Galleria more regularly. They have a great wine selection and the staff has always been amazing with new recommendations.
You can't help but smile on your first trip to Galleria when you notice the glass door connecting the store to the lobby of the Southport Brown Line station. Or, much more likely, you noticed that the lobby of your everyday train station had a not-so-secret door to a liquor shop right there. You thought, "is anyone else seeing this? Why aren't we all walking in here?!" Some days on public transit, even if it's the sleepy Brown Line, have you reaching for a drink as soon you're able. Kudos to Galleria for being the nearby bottle.
That novelty of that entrance can wear off quickly for repeat customers, though, and eventually, Galleria's proximity to the station gives it more the feel of an airport duty-free shop than that of a liquor store. Some of the prices can leave that impression as well. I wonder if the shop wouldn't do a little better if it were located a few stores away from the station. Residents are good about supporting local businesses, but the train station connection can give the shop a big of a disconnected feeling. At the same time, it shouldn't make that big of a difference. After all, this neighborhood can boast of a pet training store, numerous boutiques, and several stationary/card stores. I think people can spring a few extra bucks on their alcohol purchases.
My visits here were regular when the Paulina stop was under construction and are now only sporadic at best. I have liquor stores much closer to me in need of patronizing, but I wish Galleria the best. Everyone deserves to have a decent liquor store within their stomping grounds. Some prices are high here, but there are also some very good finds, and the selection will leave most satisfied.
3.5 rounded up to 4. They get props for the cool mosaic sign. I'd be curious to see what the recently re-opened Jewel has meant for their business.
I've been going to this place since the first day I moved into the area (August2010) and I'm very proud to call Galleria Liqueurs my local/neighborhood/preferred liquor store. This establishment, which its interior is amazing looking, is always full of incredible beers and beautiful wines--not to mention an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. GL, which is what I call the place, also has an array of deli products for wine pairing, popular and childhood snacks (e.g. Funyuns and Charleston Chew, respectively) The last awesome element, which I will mention in this review, that GL has to offer is its weekly wine tasting events... What can I say, I LOVE THIS PLACE!
Galleria is where I go when I'm too lazy to go to Jewel but need a bottle for a BYOB dinner. You can't beat the location. There's always a person there giving out free samples of a wine or beer. And, very usefully, they have tables of wines marked "Under $15" or "Under $20." I once had a small scare when I thought they didn't carry Red Bull, but found a small refrigerator full of them near the registers
Really friendly staff and a large selection. Prices are a little high, but they're happy to provide affordable alternatives. I went in during the Halloween Armageddon on Southport and got to sample four or five beers. I'll go back.
I live down the street so that is why I come here. I probably wouldn't go out of my way if it wasn't so convenient for me. Regardless they have some "off the beaten path" bottles of wine. The staff is very knowledgeable. I think his name is Mark, who has a really great understanding of the wine and has exceptional customer service.
They definitely make good recos here, so if you don't know what to buy just ask the staff and they will help.
Right off the Southport brown line, with a door leading right to the store, making this very convenient for a quick snack on the way somewhere (for me, usually orchestra rehearsal). As opposed to their extensive wine selection, with a good amount of labels I have not heard of for very cheap prices, the food here however is of the processed, packaged, preserved variety. Nice enough service, convenience is the key here.
Great selection of wines for a pretty reasonable price. The owner is great - she is always super friendly & clearly knows her stuff. She always has recommendations for a great bottle of wines. I also like how they often have wine vendors with samples.
Love this place. I go here whenever I am looking for something new or just hard to find. The staff is always friendly and very informed on all their products.
Let's get one thing straight right off the bat - this is not a mega liquor store that carries 7,000 kinds of beer and spirits.
It's a specialty wine shop that happens to carry some beer and spirits for those who wander in off the Brown Line and want something other than wine.
That being said, you will not recognize 99% of the wines in here. And trust me, that's a GOOD thing.
Recently I had the chance to try and number of different wines the store stocks and was blown away. The sheer volume of wines (1,200 according to Benjamin the store owner) from wineries I've never head of, was awesome. These are small batch, artisan wines that some family in the middle of nowhere took a lot of time and care to try and make. You should care too.
They are not your 1 million gallon wineries like Gallo or Mondavi (not that's there anything wrong with getting your cheap drink on). So don't freak out if you don't know a single thing about any of them in there.
Prices vary greatly so you can pick up a bottle of $6 wine or $60 wine - it's up to you. Most seem to be in the $15 - $25 range and represent good values for what you're getting. There are also tables with wines under $10, under $7, etc. if you're just looking for a bargain.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable and can steer you in a direction if you tell them what you're looking for and to spend. They also offer a service where if you are planning a party and bring them your menu, you'll go home with the right wine pairings for what you're serving.
To give you an idea, on a recent trip we bought 6 bottles ranging from a $10 red blend that is perfect with pizza but isn't going to change your world to a $27 bottle of amazing Clayhouse Pinot Noir which if you drink good pinots, know you'd need to spend around $25 - $30 to get a decent one. Not that I'm a wine snob mind you but hey, you gotta treat yourself once in a while, no?
To sum it all up if you're looking for a $4 bottle of White Zin, go to Jewel. If you're looking to bring a wine to a party or family dinner and get complimented on what a unique and tasty bottle you brought go here.
Interesting selection of affordable wines. I enjoyed looking at all the different options. My husband also found some beer he was excited about trying. Helpful man at the register, maybe the owner?
I do think the frozen pizzas in the back are odd in this quality liquor store. Especially on a street with tons of dining options.
I will return.
I loved this little liquor store! Within walking distance of my brother's house, I'm sure this will be a frequent stop. We were able to quickly find what we needed, and at competitive prices.
But more than being convenient, the staff was lovely. The man who rang us up insisted that we take a free lime for our mules, and then instructed us to each take a water so we could stay hydrated! He was friendly and funny. He gestured to a man doing a wine tasting in the middle of the store. "Go see him. He's bored." Haha. Okay.
Glad we did! He had a $15 Lodi Petite Sirah that was fantastic. We'd already paid, but we took a picture so we could keep it handy. I don't think the man doing the tasting was an employee, maybe a wine rep? But he was nice too and thanked us for tasting the wines.
I just love that in the middle of the big city, you find wonderful neighborhoods like Southport, and a little liquor store with a truly small-town feel and friendliness.
